Neri 光
A young woman with a short black bob, a red scarf and a brass lantern. She keeps the last flame. She never fights. She listens, she turns the world, she walks on.
Fold impossible gardens. Light the lanterns. Walk a year through the sky with a girl, a flame and a small dog.
A wordless fairy tale of light and shadow for iPhone, iPad and Android. First chapter free. No ads. No tracking.

High above an endless sea of clouds float the sky gardens. Once, a lantern burned at the gate of every garden, and the gardens were joined by light. Then the Silence came. The lanterns went out one by one, the paths shifted, and the world fell asleep.
Neri carries the last flame. She is not a hero. She is simply someone who did not let go. In every garden she folds the architecture back into shape, finds the impossible way, and lights the lantern at the torii gate. Then the garden wakes: trees bloom, water runs, bells ring.
There is no spoken word in LUMA.
The story is told in light, season and music.
The journey follows a year. In spring the cherry gardens wake, and a fox folded from paper and light steps out of the mist to lead the way. Summer brings rain, lotus and koi, and one wet, trembling surprise under an old stone lantern. In autumn the leaves turn red, the gardens open onto the sea, and a pirate ship carries Neri across the water. In winter snow and night settle on the gardens, and every flame she has lit begins to answer.
Somewhere, someone put out the lanterns. Along the way you will find out who, and why.

Nobody in LUMA speaks. Everybody has something to say.

A young woman with a short black bob, a red scarf and a brass lantern. She keeps the last flame. She never fights. She listens, she turns the world, she walks on.

A small Shiba with a sage-green scarf, found under a stone lantern in the summer rain. He follows Neri everywhere, wags at turning points and sniffs out hidden bells.

Folded from white paper and edged with gold light. It goes ahead, looks back, waits. It shows the way, but never the whole way.

Silver hair, a spiral staff and a ghost koi at her side. She has seen many lanterns go out and never stopped believing they can be lit again.

A shy water spirit who pushes rafts along the canals, and a shapeshifter who copies every step you take, only to make you laugh.

Small white spirits of the bamboo grove. They glow quietly and point the way, if you stand still long enough.

He guards the bridges in autumn and trusts no one. Perhaps he has simply been alone for too long.

A straw hat, an alms bowl, a small bell. He hops ahead on the mountain stairs and waits at every turn, as if he already knows where Neri is going.

She knows every winch and rope bridge of the mountain temple, and turns the wheel so Neri can cross.

She rows between the lantern city's arched bridges and never asks for a fare, only for a story.
They are uncanny, never cruel. Every one of them is met by listening, turning, sharing or waiting. Nobody fights.

A cracked white mask, ink that follows her hands, silver blossoms in her long black hair. She never raises a hand against Neri. Nobody knows her face or her grief.

Small black spirits with two white dots for eyes. They wander back and forth and block the path. They cannot climb stairs. They are not cruel, only lost.

Mossy giants older than the gardens. Where their eyes look, no foot may step. Turn their gaze, and the way opens.

They steal lanterns for a moment and carry platforms away, always with a flap of black wings and a rustle of feather fans.

A crooked grin, an indigo coat and a lantern cannon. Her ship sails through the clouds, and the ship is a level.

He guards a castle gate and mirrors your every step. He no longer wants to fight, and he never draws his sword.

An old paper umbrella that came alive. It hops onto the path and simply stays there.

An old paper lantern with a mouth. Its light shows the wrong way.

Friendly little fires in the dark caves. They also lead you into dead ends.

Silver-white hair and a robe of ice crystals. She freezes what moves. Only warmth sets it free again.

A whole mountain that once had eyes. A level is his body.

Dark ships with a turquoise light in the mist. Nobody knows where they come from. Something is coming from the west.

His banners cover the valley. He does not hate anyone. He has only forgotten what the lanterns were for.

He guards a bell that has been silent for years, and lets no one near it.

He stands where the jade towers turn, and only looks away when a lantern is lit.
Forty-eight gardens. One year. The first chapter is free; one purchase opens the whole journey.

Twelve gardens waiting in the spring mist. The lanterns have gone out. One girl still carries a flame, and a paper fox has begun to lead the way. Cherry blossoms hold their breath until she passes.
Rain on lotus ponds and glass paths. A small friend, a long tunnel under a castle, a grandmother with a ghost koi, and a bridge that is pulled away at the worst moment.
Red leaves, a boy who trusts no one, a samurai without a master, and pirate ships sailing through the clouds. The sky gardens open onto the sea, and a ship carries Neri overseas.
Snow on the last gardens. A stone giant opens his eyes. The woman in the mask is waiting at the top, and every light the journey has lit begins to answer.
In autumn a sky-pirate ship carries Neri and Mochi out over the cloud sea to a land beyond the mist. Three worlds, painted with respect and wonder as fantasy, not as history.

Canals, junks, red lanterns and a city asleep under ink. Inspired by China, with respect and wonder.
Stone pagodas, painted eaves, a great bronze bell and stairs that climb into the clouds. Inspired by Korea.
A wandering monk with a bronze bell appears in the mist. A tower rises through the clouds, its floors turning like clockwork. And when Neri returns home, the world she left has changed.
Folding paths, tides and lantern light in Japanese paper worlds. One finger is all you need.
Swipe through the gardens.
